Scorsese, as always, knows exactly what he is doing. Although it's long, the movie is never less than entertaining.. I couldn't buy it, and couldn't wait for the hollow spectacle to end.. Oh, yes. It's that good.. This is just a sports drama with a brass section.. A bruising, anger-scarred music academy drama not to be missed.. At its best, "Whiplash" conveys with pungent detail the striving of young people eager to make their bones in a Manhattan that's as foul and forbidding as it is seductive...
